From the early days of in-house pad printing to today's family-led, relationship-driven branded merchandise business, Indigo Promotions has grown through determination, innovation and a commitment to helping clients find the right products for every brief.
25+ years of evolving with our clients
What started as a franchise business connected to sign-making has grown into Indigo Promotions as it is known today - an established branded merchandise partner serving clients across the UK, with a trusted reputation for inclusive pricing, great service, inspired ideas and a showroom packed with possibilities.
The beginning
In the year 2000 Indigo Promotions was originally the very first franchise of Im-Press Promotions to launch in the UK. Im-Press Promotions Mid-Cheshire was purchased by the Johnson family, adding corporate promotional gifts and embroidered uniforms as a natural addition to their existing sign-making business.
Steve joins and growth accelerates
In January 2001, a young Steve Johnson (not related) joined the world of branded merch from a successful retail management background to accelerate growth. Steve achieved this through determination and by nurturing relationships with trusted trade-only manufacturers and suppliers, and valued customers alike.
Originally, the business promoted its ability to print promotional items, producing small-volume orders of promotional merch in-house by way of pad-printing, logos onto items such as promotional pens and prop-its.
The Indigo name is born
Steve soon remodelled the business and broke away from the Franchise Group. The business was renamed Indigo Promotions Ltd in 2003, and Steve became the Sales Director.
Breaking from the industry norm, Steve introduced 'Inclusive Pricing' with no hidden extras, enabling customers to instantly see how far their merchandise marketing budget would reach. With no hidden extras for print origination, carriage and free artwork visuals, Indigo Promotions soon established an enviable reputation within the world of branded business merchandise.
Growing into a recognised UK supplier
Supplying high-quality custom promotional products and excellent customer service, Indigo Promotions grew significantly throughout the noughties. More than simply promotional gifts for businesses, Indigo became one of the UK's top promotional products companies, supporting SureStart Children's Centres. Providing branded items in this area led to significant inroads with supplying Local Authorities, Emergency Services, the NHS, and many educational settings across the UK.
Indigo soon became a specialist supplier of branded merchandise to community-serving organisations. Supplying the best promo items for children of all ages, including newborns, Indigo supported events, campaign partners and service providers with creative and relevant branded promotional products, all designed to create a lasting impression.
During this time, Steve developed and launched the much acclaimed and inspired niche collection of best promo products presented in The Goody Guide. Originally a printed brochure, The Goody Guide quickly became considered the best marketing merchandise tool in the armoury of many a budding marketer.
NEW logo, new Indigo
Following a difficult season of personal tragedy and significant government budget cuts, in 2015, Steve became MD, taking Indigo in a new direction, breaking away from the founders of the business and its connections with the sign manufacturing side of the business entirely.
NEW Indigo - New Logo! With the renewed vigour of youth and additional experience in customer services and technology, Indigo re-established itself, embracing growth with a more diverse customer base. Since 2015, Indigo has specialised in supplying environmentally friendly promotional products, developing extensive expertise across both public and private sectors in the supply of custom promotional merchandise.
Emily, Steve's daughter, joined at a similar time, marking the beginning of a new family-led era for the business, soon followed by his son-in-law, Liam.
The new family business takes shape
With Emily joining the team and Liam soon following, Indigo's next chapter became firmly family-led. Alongside Steve's experience, the business embraced fresh energy, stronger customer service and new technology, helping Indigo continue to evolve with a more diverse customer base.
Responding during the pandemic
In March 2020 Indigo began to face another season of extreme challenges with COVID-19 and the first national lockdown in the UK was announced. Whilst the majority of promotional merchandise companies closed their doors, Indigo went into overdrive and began the enormous task of diversification.
Indigo's pre-existing and reputable Chinese custom promo products supply chain enabled Indigo to deliver essential and certified PPE during a 6-week window of national shortage. Liam holds the record for the largest order, supplying 1.2million face masks to his local Cheshire West and Chester council.

In 2025, Indigo Promotions proudly celebrates 25 years in business. What began as a small franchise operation has grown into a trusted, family-led branded merchandise partner serving clients of all sizes across the UK.
